SUBMISSION STANDARDS
This list is not exhaustive. The review team reserves the right to request resubmission for any reason, including but not limited to issues not explicitly outlined here.
Lift Submission
Lifters can include a maximum of three lifts in their submission, with the load on the bar for each lift contributing towards the qualifying total required to secure a membership spot at the level they are applying to.
Lift Types
The three lifts are limited to one barbell squat, one barbell deadlift, and one barbell press variation.
Standards and Assessment
Each variation submitted must meet specific club standards, which are assessed on a lift-to-lift basis.
Video Requirements
- Video clips can span across multiple training sessions and days.
- Clips must include both the concentric and eccentric portions of the lift.
- Clips must provide an unobstructed view of at least one sleeve of the barbell.
- Clips should allow a clear view of the lifter throughout most of the lift (acknowledging that some gym setups may make this difficult).
- Clips should be free of edits that impact the continuous view of the lift.
Weight Loading Clarification
Lifters must include in the form submission the total weight across all lifts and the exact weight loaded on each individual lift.
Certain lifts may be subject to additional standards unique to the specific variation submitted. In addition to meeting the clarified expectations, lifters must submit a clip that provides a clear view of the following requirements:
BENCH PRESS
- Unrack The barbell must be unracked with a full extension in the elbows before being lowered.
- Chest Contact Contact must be made between the barbell and the chest.
- Press The barbell must be pressed back through a full extension in the elbows before being returned to the j hooks.
- Glute Contact Contact between the glutes and the pad of the bench must be maintained throughout the entire lift.
DEADLIFT
- Bar Path The bar path must be void of aggressive hitching.
- Return The bar must be returned to the floor with grip maintained; an early release will disqualify the lift.
- Top Position At the top of the pull, hips and knees must be fully extended, and the lifter must be standing fully upright before beginning the eccentric portion of the lift.
SQUAT
- Depth We must be able to confidently confirm that the hip crease has dropped BELOW the top of the knee. Our assessment of this is strict to ensure all applicants are held to the same expectations.
